High dusting and the reach limit in a Brookvale showroom or unit

The most durable way to write this is not a number but a description: reachable from floor level or from a low step, without a ladder or platform. That phrase applies identically in a showroom, a warehouse and an office, and a cleaner does not need to measure anything to apply it. A number sounds precise and then falls apart the moment somebody stands on a mezzanine or a raised platform.

It also removes the grey area where an ambitious cleaner reaches something today and cannot reach it next week. Consistency matters more than height. If a surface is above the line, it should be visibly above the line every visit, so the client sees a stable result and the periodic conversation happens on schedule rather than after somebody notices dust on a beam.

In a high-bay unit the list is fairly consistent: roof structure, purlins, high-level pipework and conduit, light fittings, air-handling grilles at ceiling level, the tops of tall racking, mezzanine undersides and any signage mounted above the showroom floor. All of it collects dust slowly, and none of it can be reached without equipment. Grouping them into a single high-level item is more useful than listing them separately.

The other reason to group them is that they are done in one visit. Bringing in an elevated work platform for one light fitting is uneconomic, so the sensible arrangement is a planned attendance that addresses everything above the line at once. That means a stated cycle, a site shutdown or a quiet period, and confirmation that the floor can carry the equipment being used.

The temptation in any building is to improvise. A chair, a stack of pallets, a stepladder leaned against racking. Every one of those is how a serious injury happens, and none of them is acceptable regardless of who asks. A provider that declines to reach something without proper access is doing the right thing, even though it looks less accommodating than one that finds a way.

For a client, the practical response is to plan the high-level work rather than push the routine visit to cover it. That means agreeing a cycle, agreeing when the space can be cleared, and accepting that the equipment cost is part of the job. Where the access required is beyond what a cleaning provider should be operating, the work is referred to a contractor licensed for it. That referral is recorded in the proposal so the site knows the work still has an owner.
